The switch-over process can be done very efficiently through a couple of steps:Ī. Hire a worker in the Buhrer tractor (the yellow one) to start planting Canola on field 26.Ĭ.

This sequence will reduce the amount of travelling required between harvests. This will give us a good growth sequence of field 21, then field 19, then field 26, and then field 15/16.

Field 15/16 should only be planted in the next cycle. Using this process I reduce the activity of processing field 19 from 1.5 hours down to just over 1 hour.įield 15/16 is ready for harvest, but in this growth cycle we need to have field 26 planted. In the final step, use the Buhrer after completing the cultivating to spray the field. Hire a worker in the Buhrer tractor (the yellow one) to cultivate the rest of the field. Now switch the tractors to let the worker use the SAME tractor (the red one) to continue with the planting.į. The planter would not have reached the end of the cultivated field yet. When it is about 2 rows away (approximately 50% of the field), stop the cultivator and hire a worker in the Buhrer to start the planter, planting Canola.Į. The speed of the cultivator will ensure that it catches up to the harvester very quickly. When about 30% of the field is harvested, hire a worker to start cultivating using the Buhrer tractor (the yellow one).ĭ. Use the SAME tractor (the red one) and the tipper to empty the harvester when needed.Ĭ. Now, with the better cultivator, we can reduce the time taken to process the field as follows:ī. This was due to the restriction in the vehicles we had and the speed at which the equipment could be used. Previously we had to process the field in two distinct steps: harvest & cultivate, and then plant & spray. Use the new cultivator to our advantage and further expand the equipment. Today is all about upgrading the equipment so that we spend less time doing the same thing. It does take us a while to get things done, and expanding the farm will therefore just take longer. It is day 4, and the farm is running very well.
